Pipette-it Kit™: Learn to pipette like a pro!

Welcome to the world of DNA technology. Your first task: learn to pipette like a professional.

Accurate, consistent pipetting is essential for manipulating DNA. Biotechnology research and development, as well as manufacturing, often require precise measurements of small liquid volumes, sometimes as little as one-millionth of a litre. With this biotechnology education kit, you will learn and practise the fundamentals of pipetting. You will also complete a fun exercise in which you'll try to match or exceed the accuracy of a pipetting robot and a university professor. Can you get close?

This exercise is an engaging way to practise and showcase your pipetting skills while also learning about data management: collecting results, processing data, and presenting your findings in a chart.

Learn your pipetting basics:
• what a micropipette is
• what tips are
• know which pipet and tips to choose to based on the desired volume of liquid to be transferred
• know the stop points for aspirating and dispensing
• know how deep to insert the tip with aspirating
giving enough time during aspiration to get your desired volume
• pipet with a small volume micropipette such as a 2 uL, 2.5 uL, or 10 uL pipette.
• learn the most common breakage of a small volume micropipette
• practice ejecting tips

This kit includes only the different tubes needed to complete the exercise.

Add our micropipette set and 3-decimal point scale to your cart if you do not have some already.

You will need to have your own:

• P100 pipette ( for volumes of 10.0 uL to 100.0 uL) and tips
• P1000 pipette (for volumes of 100 uL to 1,000 uL) and tips
• 3 decimal point scale

Cleaning and safety supplies are not included in the kit. Necessary safety and cleaning supplies are latex or nitrile gloves, and a chlorinated bleach cleaner or a 10% solution of chlorinated bleach in a spray bottle (you can make this by adding 9 parts water to 1 part bleach in a spray bottle). You can add a Mini Safety Set to your kit which includes gloves and a reusable plastic apron to protect your clothes.
