We want the next generation to understand and leverage biotechnology to solve some of humanity's biggest challenges.
In the 1990s, Canadian policy makers and educators had the foresight to see the importance digital technology would play in the future of Canada. This resulted in broad sweeping education involving computers being implemented in schools. To ensure future generations could navigate the future digital world, the programs had simple, specific goals: to provide basic skills and understanding of digital technologies.
Today, biotechnology is already an important part of our society. While medicine, crops and general-consumer goods made from biotechnology benefit consumers, public fear of little- understood genetically modified organisms (GMOs) or genetically modified (GM) products is widespread.
As biotechnology products become ever more embedded in society, it is of the utmost importance that future generations understand the nature of products, their origins and the morality of use from an informed standpoint.
