This 9-class biotechnology online course allows you to discover what Biotechnology is, and how to use it to create genetic engineering products while learning Genetic Engineering Hero hands-on skills.

Whether you are looking to learn new biotechnology skills as part of teacher professional learning, science fair project, iGEM team, DIY experiment, or to see if a career path in biotechnology is right for you, this course will help you reach your goal! Each student will get to learn the basics of biotechology and genetic engineering and apply them in their own experiments, which will be reviewed and guided by our expert scientists. You'll have the chance to ask your questions, troubleshoot your work and think through biotechnology applications in this three week period. If you have already completed the Zero to Genetic Engineering learning journey, this course will be covering the same content, but you'll be directly corresponding with an expert scientist. Have a look at our more advanced courses and talks to discover something new, or join this class for a refresher and a chance to interact with other Genetic Engineering Heroes. Practice makes perfect!

This class will run over 9 class periods over a period of 3 weeks. Each class will be between 1 to 3 hours, and 1 to 3 hours of pre-class activities will be required from the student.

 Purchase this course and the required Zero to Hero Kit pack. You'll be emailed with further details about the course. When the course starts, you simply join your scientist and your peers online. You will complete the hands-on activity together, ask questions, discuss topics and network. Amino Labs has customers in more than 40 countries and so there is a possibility of experience different cultures.

  • No prior skills or knowledge necessary
  • For anyone aged 12+ (under 16 yo will need minimal adult-supervision/help during clean-up) - Minors should be accompanied by a parent
  • Requirements: 
    • Students will need a laptop/desktop computer with a good internet connection, a camera and microphone, and a Google Chrome browser
    • Students will need to have cleaning supplies available at home: (chlorinated cleaner spray or wipes (e.g. Chlorox) or standard chlorinated bleach. This is covered during the course.
    • Students will need to already have or add-on these items to the course purchase:
        • Zero to Genetic Engineering Hero Home pack (Ch 1-4) with DNA Playground Home or Large Edition & Zero to Genetic Engineering Hero book (LINK)
        • Safety supply home pack with apron & gloves ($6.00 + shipping)
