Join one of our expert scientists to learn advanced Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, hands-on! 

This 9-class biotechnology online course allows you to push your biotechnology skills and learning further by delving deep into proteins, biochemistry, bonding, genetic circuits and CRISPR.  

Just like the beginner's version of this course, Advance Genetic Engineering Hero is a great choice if you are looking to learn new and advanced biotechnology skills as part of a science fair project, iGEM team, DIY experiment, or to see if a path in biotech is right for you. Each student will get to learn advanced biotechnology and Genetic Engineering skills and concepts while applying them in hands-on experiments. You'll have the chance to ask your questions, troubleshoot your work and think through biotechnology applications and implications in this three week period. Join this class to finish your Genetic Engineering Hero journey alongside others!

If you have already completed the Zero to Genetic Engineering chapters 5 to 7 learning journey, this course will be covering the same content. Have a look at our more advanced summer course and talks to discover something new, or join this class for a refresher and a chance to interact with other Genetic Engineering Heroes. Practice makes perfect!

This class will run over 9 class periods over a period of 3 weeks. Each class will be between 1 to 3 hours, and 1 to 3 hours of pre-class activities will be required from the student.

  • Completion of the Zero to Genetic Engineering Hero online course or Zero to Genetic Engineering Book & Experiments chapters 1 to 4. 
  • For anyone aged 12+ (under 16 yo will need minimal adult-supervision/help during clean-up)
  • Requirements: 
    • Students will need a good internet connection, a laptop or desktop computer and access to Google Chrome browser
    • Students will need to have cleaning supplies available at home: (chlorinated cleaner spray or wipes (e.g. Chlorox) or standard chlorinated bleach
    • Students will need to already have or add-on these items to the course purchase:
        • Zero to Genetic Engineering Hero Home pack (Ch 5-7) with Microcentrifuge & RGB add-on if you have a DNA Playground home edition ($597 USD + shipping)
        • Safety supply home pack with apron & gloves ($6.00 + shipping)
    • Students must be able to attend all sessions as the knowledge and skills gained in earlier classes becomes necessary for later classes
