The DNA Playground and Engineer-it Kit Starter Pack enable you to engineer and grow bacteria like the pioneers of genetic engineering did.

The DNA playground™ starter pack enables you to insert DNA programs into bacteria efficiently and without a mess. For at-home learners, homeschoolers, teachers, and students. The DNA Playground is a new kind of lab equipment, called a minilab, that is personal and engaging compared to traditionally large, expensive, and complex lab equipment. DNA Playgrounds reduce experiment set-up and clean-up time and get rid of messy ice and water! 

This original DNA Playground enables one individual or group to complete one genetic engineering experiment at a time. In other words, you can complete one Canvas Kit or Engineer-it Kit experiment at a time. If you're looking for a larger DNA Playground option, the DNA Playground Large allows for four simultaneous genetic engineering experiments. 

What's included

  • (1) DNA Playground™:  the original easy-to-use minilab for engineering and growing microorganisms. DNA Playground has incubator capacity for an individual or group working together. Current version: β1.5
  • (1) Engineer-it Kit™: all the ingredients needed to create an engineered organisms. Engineer-it Kits come in Individuals (one try) or Group Kits (eight tries) at engineering a DNA program into a cell. In groups of 4, the Group Kit can be used for a class of up to 32 students. 
  • Instructions: a manual with easy to understand vocabulary and step by step procedures and the online simulation experiment simulation to practice with, teach you fundamentals and guide you along the way. 

  • Udemy course which walks you through the Engineer-it Kit (Optional, contact us for your access code!)

  • Not included, but recommended: Zero to Genetic Engineering Hero book! The world's first beginner's guide to learning hands-on skills and fundamental concepts about biology and genetic engineering.

Engineer-it kits are a general experience that can be used as a hands-on activity to complement various modules from middle school to high school. They allow for scaffolded learning and Engineer-it Kits™ are also used in technical colleges and universities.
Self-contained kit: No need to source and buy reagents, chemicals, and consumables. The Engineer-it Kit™ is a convenient collection of all that is needed to engineer and grow cells in petri dishes.
All reagents tubes are color-coded for ease of use and include illustrated simple procedure.
2 convenient formats: 

Individual kit -  One try, can be done by individuals, groups, family. 

Group kit - Eight transformation tries with 1 shared DNA program - can be done individually or in groups up to 4.

Choose from one of 10 pigments :
Blue, Blueberry Blue, Violet, Orange, Teal, Purple

Fluorescent: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Raspberry Red 

All Engineer-it Kits™ are Biosafety Level 1 (BSL1), meaning they do not require any special containment in North America (you can do it at home, school, etc.). If you are outside of North America, some regulations may apply, please check with your local public health office.
